Study of Fluctuations in Surface Area of Lake Haramaya using NDWI and MNDWI Methods

Lakes are of great value to human beings and important for various reasons like regulating the flow river water, maintain eco-system storage water during dry seasons. Lake Haramaya, which is situated at 14 km Northwest Harer town (UNESCO Site) one famous beautiful lakes Ethiopia. It acts as a source life animals. The over exploitation lake haramaya supply agricultural purposes has led its extinction in last two decades. This study attempts identify fluctuations surface area Haramaya between 1995 2020 by using multi-temporal satellite data. Landsat 5TM images 1995, 2000 2010, 7ETM+ image 2005 8 OLI TIRS 2015 analyzed Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) Modified (MNDWI) methods. These methods used quantify changes compared each other identifying suitable method detecting bodies. present shows that, 2010 lost up 2.3238 sq.km almost dried.
